The mountains are made of limestone and granite. Here you can find the biggest mountains in
the South Carpathians. The most of the Peaks are higher than 2500 m. By the time had pass
many of caves were find in this part of the Carpathians. The lakes and the "sea-eyes" that was
discovered there took the people to visit it. That is why we go on a trip
to the South Carpathian's biggest and highest mountains. Come with us to see this mountains.

Route:
1 day:
Fogaras town (400m) -> Sambata de jos (470m) -> Sambata Station (670m) ->
Sambata valley -> Sambata Hostel (1400m)
8h, 22km, elevation of climb: 861m fel, 0m down
We start in the morning from Brasso (town). We go by train to Szombatfalva from where our trip
beginns. We walk through Szombatfalva to the Szombatfalvi monastery (800 m) which was build
by Constantin Brancoveanu. From here following the red cross we climb up to our target.
2 day:
Sambata Hostel (1400m) -> Big Window (2180m) ->
-> Vistea Saddle (2304m) ->
MOLDOVEANU Peak (2544m) -> Big Ucea Peak (2434m) -> -> Podragu Hostel (2136m)
9h, 15km, elevation of climb: 1144m up , 405m down
First we put our tens after that we climb up at the Sambata valley's Big Window, which is made
of stone. From here we climb up at the Galasescu Mare peak (2470 m), and after we had arrived
to the Vistea saddle we climb up to the Moldoveanu peak, which is Romanian's
highest peak. Up there, in the nord way you can see Transylvania and the valley between the
Olt and the Cris river. From here following the red cross we walk by the Little peak and the
Big peak.In this way we get near the Corabia peak from where we descend to the Podeagu
saddle (2307 m).
3 day:
Podragu Hostel (2307m) -> Paru Peak (2380m) -> Giurgiu Saddle (2250m) ->
-> Arpas Saddle (2175m) –> Arpasu mare Peak (2468m) –> Zmeilor Window (2175m) –>
-> Capra Lake (2230m) -> Balea Lake (2034m)
7h, 10km, elevation of climb: 421m fel, 694m down
In the morning we climb up to the main ridge of Fogaras (2307 m). We pass the Podragu peak
(2462 m) and the Giugiului bridge. From the little lake we arrive to the Big Arpas peak, and
after that at the "Three step from death" part, from where we climb up to the Zerge lake and
after that to the Balea lake (2034 m).
4 day:
Balea Lake (2034m) -> Balea water fall (1234m) -> Buteanu Ridge ->
-> Vanatoarea lui Buteanu Peak (2507m) -> Balea Lake (2034m)
6h, 14km, elevation of climb: 1273m fel, 1273m down
Starting on our road we pass the Transfogaras from where we arrive at the Balea water fall.
This is a route that you can do by cabin too. On the Transfogaras road we walk 2.5 km untill
the Balea lake, and after that we climb up to the Netedu peak (2351 m) and to the Buteanu peak.
Without backpack.
5 day:
Balea Lake (2034m) -> Doamnei Saddle (2294m) -> Laitei Peak (2390m) ->
-> Kalcun Lake (2147m)
-> Strunga Dracului -> Negoi Peak (2535m) ->
-> Cleopatra Needle (2355m) -> Negoj
Hostel (1534m)
8h, 12km, elevation of climb: 744m fel, 1244m down
After we arrive to the Doamnei Hostel we walk by the Caltun Lake and we climb up to the Negoiu
Peak, Romania's second highest peak and after that we walk by the Devil mountain-gorge. On the
Negoju peak, if there is a good weather a beautiful view opens for us: we can see the
South Carpathians biggest water-basin, the Vidra lake. In the north way you can see the Olt
valley and in the East you observ the Moldoveanu peak. From up there we descend to the Kleopatra
needle and after that we walk on an iron-bridge.
6 day:
Negoj Hostel (1534m) -> Barcaciu Hostel (1550m) ->
-> Poiana Neamtului Hostel
(1550m) -> Avrig town (400m)
8h, 27km, elevation of climb: 16m fel, 1550m down
Starting from the Negoi Hostel we climb up a little, following the red cross untill we arrive
to the Barcaciu Hostel, passing the Puha ridge. From there we descend to the Prisaca Peak
(1125 m) untill we arrive to the Poiana Neamtului Hostel from where we walk 14 km to the
Avrig town.
